Thumb Sucker

So it is no secret to many of you that we have had lots of trouble getting Jemma to sleep through the night. She's been Baby-Wised and Ferberized to the max. The girl can go to sleep fine for naps and bedtime it's keeping her that way that is the trouble. She has been waking up at night screaming, like she's in pain. We are in the midst of talking to some healthcare professionals in natural medicine to help us figure this out. But in the past few days Jemma has slept better and she has begun to suck her thumb! We've been trying to get her to do this for 9 months!!! I think it started with her molars emerging because she had her fingers in her mouth so much that she started to soothe herself more. She took a 2 HOUR nap today...this hasn't happened in 6 months. She also slept through the night without a peep two nights ago, which has only happened maybe 5 times since she was 3 months old. We were worried cause she was actually quiet for 12 hours. Anyway, we aren't trying to get overexcited, but we think this may be a breakthrough!

  1. I know the orthodontist don't like it, but my little girl sucking her thumb has been so wonderful for Jovie's sleep ... and any other time she feels stressed. I love it. My ped. is all for it, he loves self-soothing, so I say thumb-sucking is a wonderful thing ... especially for parents.
